Data-Driven Quality through Statistical Process Control_By WABTEC
23/09/2024 - 11/01/2025Background:
Wabtec SPA, based in Piossasco (TO) and a world leader in the supply of brake control systems for railway applications, intends to adopt an efficient system to keep new products under control. This system will be based on solid theoretical foundations to arrive at a simple and effective tool for tracking production data, identifying deviations/problems and resolving them quickly once identified.
The methodology that would be applied to achieve the desired result is Statistical Process Control (SPC), used in most production plants. SPC is a method that allows for the reduction of scrap, rework and quality defects within a production plant.
Challenge:
The specific processes from which this new methodology is intended to start and integrate are two:
- Electronic screening test (burn-in): this test runs on multiple units in a climatic chamber.
- End-of-line test of Metroflexx/Regioflexx brake control integrated devices.
The main objectives that are expected to be achieved are:
- An SPC procedure or an alternative method for monitoring and managing the process.
- Dedicated software for transferring data acquired during testing.
- A problem-solving tracking system integrated into the test bench.
