Unlock the Potential of Space with 3D Printing_By Blue Engineering
23/09/2024 - 11/01/2025Background:
The use of 3D printers has revolutionized various sectors, including the space one, where it assumes crucial importance for multiple reasons related to research, exploration and colonization of space.
This innovative technology offers a series of unique advantages that make it an essential element for modern space missions.
In this scenario, the goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem, where 3D printed components can be efficiently recycled and reused on site, minimizing dependency on external supplies and contributing to the sustainability of long term space missions.
Challenge:
The aim of the challenge is to:
- Create an innovative plastic material for 3D printing that combines waterproof, recyclable, eco-sustainable, resistant and durable properties;
- Implement a recycling system for printed material which arent’t used anymore to be reused for a new 3D print;
- Imagine the disposal or reuse of components that cannot be reused in printing;
- Implement a traceability and monitoring system for 3D printed components, in order to keep track of their origin, life cycle and the proportion between original material and recycled material.
