Innovative Solutions for the Sustainability of Alpine Huts_By Club Alpino Italiano Torino

Background:
Both high-mountain alpine huts and mid-altitudes tourist-oriented huts are increasingly suffering from a reduction of water resources and changing availability of renewable energy, mainly due to climate change and altered hydrological cycles.
There is a need for engineering solutions to optimize the energy production and the collection, use and reuse of water, making it more efficient, resilient and sustainable, thus reducing the dependence on climate variability.
Challenge:
The aim of the challenge is to:
- Optimize the management of water resources in alpine huts through technological solutions for collecting, managing and preserving the resource in the best possible way;
- Design new technologies/methods/tools for the management of wastewater and drinking water;
- Improve the supply and management of energy;
- Encourage virtuous behaviors among users.
Notes:
- Some meetings may be conducted in Italian, a basic understanding of the language is required.
- Participants must have the appropriate equipment and experience (mountain excursions may be planned).
