Innovative Tracked System for Safe and Effortless Patient Stair Transport_By Alea Sas
24/02/2025 - 07/06/2025Background:
In a constantly evolving healthcare context, the optimization of patient transport processes plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and safe care. The need to transfer patients on stairs can present significant challenges for healthcare workers, with potential risks to patient and worker safety.
To address these challenges effectively, a combination of practical skills, appropriate devices and procedures, awareness of risks and sensitivity to individual patient needs is required. This involves developing innovative medical devices, also considering the psychological well-being of patients.
Challenge:
The aim of the Challenge is to design a solution capable of improving the transport of patients on stairs, through the use of emergency vehicles such as spinal boards, spoon stretchers and wheelchairs, integrating it with a tracked system.
The device must be able to:
- Work autonomously, automatically adjusting based on the angle of the steps to allow you to keep the workload balanced and safeguard the patient’s safety;
- Minimize the effort of the rescue personnel, who would only have the task of controlling the descent or ascent of the tracked system through a controller;
- Increase the level of safety for patients.
