Additionally,\u00a0<b>urban forests\u00a0<\/b>play a crucial role in\u00a0<b>carbon sequestration\u00a0<\/b>and mitigating climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, it is essential to effectively monitor, mapping and manage urban greenery to preserve it and promote environmental sustainability. But how to collect data?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0aim of the challenge is to develop a ground rover able to have an autonomous navigation, with purpose to collect and mapping precise forest data (e.g. LiDAR, imaging sensors, GNSS), and calculating carbon storage.<\/p>\n<p>Using these data, it will be possible to generate comprehensive forest maps, including Above Ground\u00a0Biomass (AGB) data, which indicates forest health and climate change mitigation.<\/p>\n<p><b>Key\u00a0<\/b><b>objectives<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5G technology to ensure adequate bandwidth for\u00a0real time transmission\u00a0of data collected, real time navigation and mapping;<\/li>\n<li>Develop an autonomous rover, which is able to collect detailed information on trees, for navigation and monitor vegetation changes;<\/li>\n<li>3D mapping in critical scenario, such as AboveGroungBiomass (AGB) estimation forest health and climate change mitigation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/didattica.polito.it\/pls\/portal30\/gap.pkg_guide.viewGap?p_cod_ins=01HRTNE&amp;p_a_acc=2024&amp;p_header=S&amp;p_lang=IT&amp;multi=N\">Clik here for the syllabus!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Download the pdf to discover if your degree programme recognizes you curricular or extra curricular credits for this challenge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background: The consumption of land and the degradation of urban green spaces pose a significant threat to the environment and biodiversity in our cities.
